Howard, the village vicar, lives in this house when he is not busy at the Village Church. Like most of the other cottages in the village it is a small, single floored building built from local stone many years ago. The front garden is kept neat and tidy, and is mostly lawn, with a small window box below both front windows.
The front door to the cottage looks sturdy and is made from solid oak. In the centre of the door there is a round, brass doorknob and to the left of this is the keyhole. The windows on either side of the door are divided into 6 smaller panes. One pane in each window has a frosted, round pane of glass in them, while the rest are clear.
The hall is clean, but does not look as though it has been decorated for a long time. The wallpaper seems to be very old and has large patterns with flowers on it. It comes halfway down the hall walls, and dark stained wood panelling continues to the dark skirting boards. A single table lamp sits on a table halfway down the hall, and an old fashioned telephone - with a rotating dial is next to it. There are several photographs in frames on the wall. All of them are of Howard standing outside several different churches.
A small front room is to the right of the hall way. There is a fireplace on the outside wall, and an open fire sits in it. On the stone fire hearth is a coal bucket, and several type of fire poker. Above the fireplace is a very large, antique looking mirror and a small mantleplace clock sits in front of the mirror on the mantlepiece. Close to the fire are two small chairs, turned towards the fire. There is a radio on a sideboard on the wall opposite the window, but no television. The sideboard also has many small picture frames containing photographs of a young man and woman, and more pictures of the woman on her own. At the end of the sideboard there is an empty stand for Paulie, his parrot. When Paulie is not on his stand, he stays in his cage. This is in front of the window looking out onto Main Street. His other pet - Bitzy - his border collie - sleeps in a dog basket placed on the floor in a corner close to the firewall,
Across the hallway there is Howards bedroom. There is a single bed in here, along with a chest of drawers and a wardrobe. The bed is an old looking bed. It is wooden and stained a drak brown colour. The wooden headboard is large and very ornate. On the bed are several folded blankets, and many sheets.
At the back of the cottage is a very small kitchen with a cooker, a small sink and a few cupbards, and a bathroom with only a toilet, sink and bath in it.
Looking around the house there are no radiators, and the only heat in the house seems to come from the fire. In winter time it must be bitterly cold.
