Cliff Rescue

The cliffs to the south of the disused lighthouse were the scene of a dangerous rescue yesterday. A visitor to the area, who did not give his name, seems to have attempted to climb the cliff face during the morning.

His friends said that he climbed about three quarters of the cliff before he became stuck and was unable to climb any further, or return to the beach.

He remained stranded there for an hour before the cliff rescue team arrived and began to try and reach him. Unfortiunately they were unable to climb down to him as the loose rock would have fallen onto him, and could have knocked him from the side of the cliff.

A coastguard rescue helicopter was called and when it arrived one of the crew was winched down to the cliff to secure the stranded tourist.

Once it was safe to move, the helicopter lifted both the crewman and the tourist to the top of the cliffs.

The tourist was extremely embarrased at the situation he had found himself in and quickly returned to his friends and then left the area.

Climate Change Damage

Poor Mr. Price, the farmer at River Farm, has had his worst year of farming in his memory. His crops have been severely damaged by the summer rains, and the floods from the river earlier in the year have not helped either as there is little grass to harvest and use to feed his diary herd throughout the winter. Mr Price said;

If this is the result of that climate change talk I've heard so much about, then I hope it stops soon, because it's ruining my farm.

However, Old man Gleave at North Farm, has reportedly had a much better summer. Unfortunately he was unavailable for comment.

The Ghost is back

The ghost is back. Where has it come from, or is it that old ghost?

Jemma McCree is Bectan Sands ballet champion. She took part in the county ballet competition recently, and won in the under 10's category.
Her mum Clare, a firewoman in Forest Town, said;

I am so proud of her. She has been working very hard for the last two years and this proves that it was all worth it.

Kaboom!

There was excitement on the beach of Bectan Sands earlier in the week as the tide washed ashore an old world war two mine.
It was noticed by Jackie Kingston as she was taking her dog - Scruff - for a morning walk. She immediatedly phoned the coastguard who closed the area and called the army bomb disposal team.

The army examined the mine carefully and then blew it up in a controlled explosion. The actual explosion caused the windows of many of the houses to rattle.

The remains have been taken away by the army to identify whether it was a British or German mine.
The beach has been reopened by the coastguard.
